Are you seeking a small-group wilderness adventure off the beaten path in Alaska or Canada--one that offers physical challenge, yet provides you with opportunities for reflection and solitude? Join river rafting, canoeing, sea kayaking, backpacking or hiking base camp expeditions in North America's pure wilderness.
For more than two decades, Equinox Wilderness Expeditions has explored Arctic rivers, wild coasts, glacial fjords and rugged mountain country, seeking out the unusual and the magnificent. We organize expeditions from British Columbia's Coast Mountains to the glacial fjords of Southeast Alaska, out to the Aleutian Chain of islands, and north to the sweeping tundra and mountains of Alaska's Brooks Range, the wild rivers of the Northwest Territories, and to Nunavut, northern Canada's High Arctic province of constant summer light. Fall and Spring may find us in the US Southwest or Latin America. We are a small company, and we run our own trips, catering to a small number of adventurers every year.
We believe the earth's wild places offer a path for balancing the hectic pace of modern life with simplicity and a personal connection with the land. Here we find solitude and silence. Entering the land on its own terms--accepting the rhythms of wind, weather, and wildlife--we encounter natural ecosystems uninterrupted by human endeavor, and experience the diverse and rich flora and fauna of our wondrous planet. We connect with each other in ways that are often not possible in our day-to-day lives. This is the gift of wilderness.
Our 2008 Schedule includes some of our favorite expeditions, as well as one exploratory trip in Canada's Northwest Territories. Explore Magazine's Trip of the the Year, the Kuujjua River crosses Victoria Island in the High Arctic. Our June Kokolik River canoeing expedition, named Outside Magazine's 2007 Trip of the Year, traverses Alaska's Western Arctic. We return again to Baffin Island (named one of Outside Magazine's 2004 Trip of the Year) on a trekking traverse of Auyuittuq National Park.
We are proud to announce that National Geographic Adventure Magazine rated us as one of the Best 55 Adventure Tour Operators on the Planet, including one of the Top Two River and Sea Outfitters, for service, education, sustainability and spirit of adventure.
