The fjords between Romsdal and Isfjorden in Norway offer everything you could ever imagine in a ski vacation: pristine fjords, snow-covered mountains, steep runs, and no crowds. Join us for a Ski and Sail expedition to the Sunnmore and Romsdalen Alps. Let Norway's best mountain ski guides take you to the tops of the peaks, then carve the first tracks! A sailboat is our floating hotel, as well as our transportation through the fjords from mountain to mountain. We start the day with a hearty Norwegian breakfast, then head up the 'mountain of the day.' Views from the peaks are spectacular, and the runs will challenge the best skiers. The Romsdalen is known to ski mountaineers for its stable snow and long ski season. Compared to Norway's Lyngen Alps, the Romsdalen/Sunnmore area is more compact and, in many respects, wilder and steeper. With lots of peaks to choose from, we tailor our ski days to suit your energy and experience level.

At day's end, we head back to the warmth and comfort of the sailboat for hot drinks or cold beer, and the best of regional Norwegian cuisine. If the weather's good, we'll sail through the fjords to our next location.

To complete this trip you should be an experienced skier with good physical fitness. Randonee and telemark skiers are equally welcome on this adventure. Our mountain guides will go over the skills required to be safe in the backcountry. There are many possibilities for ski touring in the area, for all levels. Maximum Group Size is 6 guests. There is an option for bigger groups, up to 12 guests. Boats are fully equipped and heated for a comfortable stay even under cold and wet conditions.

We use local Norwegian IVBV/ IFMGA-certified mountain guides, who are English, German and French speaking, and know the area well.

Itinerary
Day 0 Arrive in Oslo, Norway on your own. Overnight in Oslo.

Day 1 The tour starts and ends in Molde, Aalesund or Kristiansund airport. Arrival and transport by sailboat to ski location. Sailing to each ski touring location is an experience in itself with mountains up to 1500 m that rise straight up from the fjords.

Days 2-6 Early rise and breakfast. Generally we will be touring between 3500 and 4500 feet per day. This means that we will be touring uphill between 4 to 6 hours per day. The terrain ranges from sub-alpine to glaciated high alpine From the high country we will be able to see the fjords of the area. By late afternoon, we are back at the sailboat and have time for some fishing, eating, story telling, or other social activities.
